RE: Quality of rubber roof ???

One thing for certain, don't ever let anyone put a hole in the rubber roof to glue a bubble down. That would be insane. You didn't say how large of bubbles your roof has, but as long as they are 50 cent size or less they would probably be considered normal and never cause a problem. Bubbles seem to come and go with temperature changes. That's what I think, I'm sure others will disagree. Jack

RE: Need help w-multiple battery hookup

I'm assuming you have two or more batteries If they are 12 volt batteries: Negative to Negative and Positive to positive. If you have 6 volt batteries: Negative to positive

RE: Converter location on 1988 Holiday Rambler Monitor GL 5er

Your in luck...just so happens I owned a 1988 HR Monitor for 16 years. Nice outfit, light and easy to pull and quality built. The converter is located on the drivers side, under the rear davenport/pull out bed. The front panel of the davenport is hinged to open. Fuses and breakers are in there as well. Jack

RE: Cracks in Front Cap

I have on several occasions passed oncoming 5th wheel trailers with the front cap bowed-in. I've often wandered if the owner was aware of the bowed-in cap. Several years back, I remember reading where a person experienced this same type problem; the manufacture removed the cap and added additional bracing to prevent the cap from pushing back. IMO, I believe this may be the only way to permanently fix the problem if the cap is indeed flexing with a head wind. Jack

RE: Maybe why RV Sales are down

yes you can deduct it Agree...as long as you do not have another second home loan that you are deducting. Also, if I remember correctly, it must be equipped with sleeping, cooking and toilet facilities to qualify. that's not the way 936 reads. but yes, you can deduct any thing that you want to. whether it passes an audit is another question. :p bumpy Bumpy and Bobbo, I don't understand why you wouldn't consider an RV a home.:h Many people, hundreds right here on RV.net use an RV as their primary or secondary homes. Are you thinking they have to be built out of sticks and bricks to qualify as a home:@ Please read the following carefully. This is important, could save you or someone on here hundreds of dollars. IRS allows RVs. Quote... From Publication 936, pg 2 Qualified Home For you to take a home mortgage interest deduction, your debt must be secured by a qualified home. This means your main home or your second home. A home includes a home, condominium, Co-operative, mobile home, house trailer, boat or similar property that has Sleeping, cooking or toilet facilities. The interest you pay on a mortgage on a home other than your main or second home maybe deductible if the proceeds of the loan were used for business, investment, or other deductible purposes. Otherwise, it is considered personal interest and is not deductible. Main home you can only have one main home at any one time. This home is where you Ordinarily live most of the time. Second home. A second home is a home that you choose to treat as your second home. Jack

RE: Check That Dipstick!

Good advice Mr. Ed. Been there, done that with a five-cylinder diesel Mercedes. Checked the oil level before leaving on a 160 mile trip, when I got there and slowed down I noticed the oil pressure gauge drop-off to zero. Pulled over and shut the engine down, popped open the hood and found the engine compartment completely soaked with oil and the dip stick half-way out of its holder. To make a long story short, I received an estimate of $7000 to replace the engine, I traded (gave) the car as-is to the dealer. Remember---to be forewarned is to be forearmed. Jack

RE: Breakaway Controller Mistake

I would be surprised if your brake magnets fried. The pin in the breakaway simply is a seperator that seperate the steels contact balls in the breakaway swith. When you remove the pin the balls close together and start to draw 12V current from the battery to engage the magnets. Since your fuse blew, I would think that the draw on the magnets were protected. You should have everything checked out, But I think you'll be OK. I respecfully disagree. If the electrical brake system blew a fuse, then in my opinion the current draw had to exceed the designed system current limit. The lenght of the time the brakes were actuated by removing the break-away pin should not be a reason for the fuse to blow, unless it created a defect somewhere in the system that caused excessive current. RE: WD-40 on Tires

Ok all you WD-40 experts. Taken from the WD-40 website. 9 uses found. Shines car tires Shines bike tires Shines wheelbarrow tires Cleans white wall tires Helps clean sidewalls on tires Keeps boat tires non squeaky and lubricated Lubricates air nozzle caps on tires Loosens valve stems on lawnmower tires Lubricates air holes before inserting hand air pump nozzle onto tires I would think that if WD-40 puts it on the website, then it would be OK. Maybe not what everyone would do but not harmful. -rog You sure know how to spoil the fun. It is important to note that at the bottom of the uses list on the WD-40 Web site is a disclaimer that reads. "The uses of WD-40 described on this website were provided to WD-40 Company by end-users of the product, and do not constitute recommendations or suggestions for use of WD-40 by WD-40 Company. These uses, including the "Use of the Day," have not been tested by WD-40 Company. Consumers should exercise common sense whenever using WD-40. Always follow the instructions and take heed of any warnings printed on the WD-40 packaging." Jack :?

RE: How to wire two 12v batteries?

You might want to be aware it is a very bad idea to connect 2 dissimilar batteries in your rig. :snip: In the worst scenario this could lead to a fire, best scenario is one of the batteries (the weaker one) will be overcharged and fail early. Agree that its not the best idea to connect two dissimilar batteries but: just how in the world will that cause a fire????????? Inquiring minds want to know the basis for that theory. :) The overcharged battery that receives continued charging current, will covert that electrical energy into heat, causing the battery to get hot and produce excessive hydrogen gas, which may result in an explosion and/or fire. RE: Well this will be my last post for a long time

I'm not sure anyone would agree with me, but I believe in an emergency such as this, if there was anything in the holding tanks I might try hooking on the sewer hose and let-go the gray water. If that doesn't get the job done, and if I thought it would help, the next action I'd take would be against the law in all states.:R

RE: Satellite Finder Meter Driving Me Nuts!

I believe those meter movements you see are normal occurrences that occur when the system is searching for a satellite signal or transponder. To prevent the unwanted meter movements make sure your TV has the satellite signal strength bar showing from the setup menu (6-1-1). Jack

If you are currently receiving the major networks on your DISH local channels, you will not be able to view these once you leave your area. However, you will still be able to receive the other 100 plus junk channels. Jack

RE: Wind Deflector on cab of truck

With the apparent added down pressure, it seems like the "Wing" may not be a good thing if your TV is at or near the GVWR. Wonder about increased tire wear?

RE: It seems a boo boo every year!

There’s more than one way to skin a cat, here's the way I’d do it. Buy a new 25-foot RV extension cord at Wal-Mart, cut and discard the female end, and use that as your new replacement cord. (IMO, a factory installed male end is always better than a replacement plug). Next, put a replacement plug on the old cord and use that as necessary for an extension. That's what I'd do. Jack

RE: Some People Are Clueless

Well call me crazy, but it doesn't look all THAT bad to me compared to what I've seen on the highway. No, you aren't crazy. I don't think it looks all that bad, either. I have seen worse, and I have driven worse. Nobody died. Ditto, Nice looking rig. He's probably within weight limits and with a good brake controller should be well in control.

RE: Two 6v and one 12v battery, possible ?

Batteries connected in parallel should always be of the same type, rating, manufacture, and approximately the same age. Connecting dissimilar batteries may produce undesirable or even dangerous results. Jack Explain just how that can happen please. Then I'll gladly tear your explanation apart for you. Please read my above post, and then give it your best shot. Jack

RE: Two 6v and one 12v battery, possible ?

It has been my experience of 70 plus years, that when someone proclaims himself to be an expert on a subject you can disregard everything else he says. Now, with that being said, here is a link to Deep Cycle Battery Frequently Asked Questions. For those of you that think you already know everything about batteries and don't want to bother clicking on the link, I've added some quotes from the information below. "If more ampere-hours are required, you can connect two (or more) new and identical 12-volt batteries in parallel. You can also connect two larger new and identical six-volt batteries in series by attaching the negative terminal of the first battery to the positive terminal of the second battery. If you connect two 12-volt batteries in parallel that are identical in type, age and capacity, you can potentially double the total capacity. If you connect two that are not the same type, you will either overcharge the smaller of the two, or you will undercharge the larger of the two. The recommended parallel and series connections are as follows: http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff179/Jackroderick/battery.jpg When connected this way, the batteries will discharge and recharge equally. When connecting in series or parallel and to prevent recharging problems, do not mix old and new batteries or ones of different types. Cable lengths should be kept short and cable must be sized large enough to prevent significant voltage drop; there should be a maximum of 0.2 volts (200 millivolts) or less drop between batteries."
